I had an ultrasound today in which they found a 1" cyst on my left ovary. How hopeful is it to still be able to have children, and does anyone know of any treatments besides birth control? I want to get pregnant. My husband and I have been trying for almost 3 years.

How do you know if they are benign or cancerous? Are the symptoms the same?

Two days ago I found out that I have a large cyst on my right ovary and a smaller one on the left. I have already scheduled the surgery but it is 4 weeks away. I have a physically demanding job and don’t know if I should begin light duty, for fear that the cyst could burst prior to surgery. The pain in not manageable with OTC pain relievers OR heat. I intend to ask my doctor these questions soon, but need some advice in the meantime.

Hey guys,
I’ve been having lower left side pain for a few mnths on and off now and lower back pain. I went to the hospital today for appt. The doctor said he wants to do a pelvic ultrasound. He examined me and pressed my lower back and asked did it hurt there when he did it ..it really hurt. What could this be?

I have an extremely painful ovarian cyst and very worried. I have been granted charity care at a local hospital due to umemployment and no insurance. After my ultrasound, the attending Dr. called and explained they can not do anything for me but will give my a referral to another hospital. Does anyone know why they will not order a ca-125 or surgery?
This cyst is solid and large.
Thank you so much for your responses.

My doctor was able to confirm that I had one burst not too long ago as they saw fluid around my ovary in a sonogram. Due to some of my persistent symptoms over the last couple of years, I’ve probably been having these cysts on/off. They’ve not really caused a lot of problems, except twice in the last 3 years, I had horrifically painful experiences that I’m thinking were due to cysts bursting. Horrible abdominal pain that had me in a fetal position on the floor, sweating, nausea, just downright hell. First time I went to the ER not knowing what it was – they couldn’t find anything at all. I even went for a sonogram a few weeks later to check for cysts and nothing was found then either.
But now I’m wondering – if I should get that pain again, should I go back to the ER?? Is it dangerous to have an ovarian cyst burst or is it just unbelievably painful and I shouldn’t worry too much?? Please only answers from people who know what they’re talking about….

For the last month I’ve been feeling like i have a faint cramping in my abdomen. I’ve been taking the pill for 6 months and have had no problems with it. The cramping is not more than a 3 out of 10. My period is normal and nothing has changed as far as my diet. Am I experiencing side effects of a ovarian cyst?

I was stunned! I am of the opinion that EVERY organ has a purpose, and why remove a HEALTHY ORGAN? Is there any recourse I can take?
Reply to FU: GOD DOES NOT MAKE MISTAKES! Every organ has a purpose, MORON!

I had an ultra sound 6 weeks ago which showed a complex ovarian cyst on my right side. My gyno had me follow up today with another ultrasound. It showed the one on the right was gone but it showed a complex cyst on the left side along with some fluid around it. Now she just wants me to follow up in 6 weeks to see if it’s gone. Does this sound right? Should I get another opinion? I don’t like to wait and see, What if it is gone and there is one on the other side??

Ultrasound shows a "simple" cyst. (not likely cancerous)
alone? It really doesn’t hurt me much – just a little achy at times.
I have concerns about anesthesia.
Thanks everyone who answers.

I have a few small cysts on both ovaries (but not PCOS, I had all my hormones checked, and all were normal). usually I get pain, like pressure, from the time of ovulation till AF arrives. I am currently 4 DPO and the pain is there, but it is differnt than usual, still pressure, but different, hard to explain, and it’s not as bad as usual.
Anyone with cysts get pregnant and have a similar experience?
hoping it’s my month!

For the last week or two I’ve had on and off type pain and it bothers me every day and is sometimes very sharp. I heard that most cysts go away by themselves (mine got smaller) but I’m concerned about ovarian cancer and there’s a huge cancer history in my family but so far no ovarian cancer and my hysterectomy was not for cancer. I read that some benign cysts will require treatment in that they do not go away by themselves, and in quite rare cases, others may be cancerous. I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts about five or six years after my (TVH/kept both ovaries) total vaginal hysterectomy. I didn’t have symptoms of ovarian cysts when they were first diagnosed and the doctor ordered the ultrasound and kept an eye on the cysts with updated ultrasounds. The last ultrasound about three years ago showed the cysts got small enough and I didn’t need further ultrasounds.
1. Anyone have advice on dealing with the pain and would heat help if surgery isn’t indicated?
2. If it’s not gas or appendicitis I’m experiencing does anyone know what can be done for them besides taking out the ovary?
One doctor I didn’t like or agree with recommended I get my ovaries removed because of the history of cysts and I didn’t see him for that problem and he refused to help me with why I went in there and think he was just trying to get more money (the wait was over 3 hours in his office).Three other doctors agreed to not take out my ovaries including my surgeon if it wasn’t cancerous as it could prevent me from going into surgical menopause.
Thanks for the info. It’s good to know a cyst can be removed without removing the ovary. A cyst on the left showed up on CT scan so that didn’t cause my pain on the right. My dr. told me to see gastroenterologist for possible bowel spasms. I was previously given a script for spasms but didn’t have anymore. The gastroenterologist’s office wanted me to wait till tomorrow (6 days after being seen by gyn) to be seen as dr. was booked solid. I also got an answer at this link everyone should see. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AkWrK0KNEPFeijkgqQyW4Wzsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20091118172510AA9p5Dv
A family member died from e-coli in her system which spread to all her organs and she refused to be seen by a dr. because she was to embarrassed about her weight. Had she gone in she’d be alive today. I was lucky I persisted and had them take me in that same day. I found out I had a fever (97.8) in gastroenterologist’s office being masked by Celebrex or it may have been caught earlier.

I am pretty sure I have an ovarian cyst on the left ovary. I had one last year that was removed and I am having all the same symptoms but they are worse this time. My question is to anyone who has had a cyst rupture or twist.Did you notice a sudden increase in your pain/symptoms or did they gradually get worse before it ruptured or twisted. I’m talking about before it actually happened, not when it happens. I do realize that the experience is very, very painful when it happens, I mean did anyone notice before it happened. I have had stronger pain, getting worse over the last 2 days. Not long enough to go to the ER but strong and more frequent episodes of sharp stabbing pain where I cant move and the constant cramping/ache is stronger and I also feeling a bit light headed and dizzy. Also i started having left shoulder pain yesterday that has gotten a lot worse, but it isn’t exactly ’shoulder tip’ pain , its the whole shoulder and my whole left arm feels quite heavy. I had shoulder tip pain when my cyst was removed (from the gas in the stomach) and it is similar now but not just in the shoulder tip. Also i understand that when a cyst ruptures or twists that it is extreme pain but has anyone had a cyst that just bleed? would this cause as much pain as one rupturing or twisting.

I went to the hospital yesterday with excruciating abdominal pain. It was enough to make me nausious to the point of throwing up. It turned out to be a ruptured ovarian cyst. All of the research I’ve done about ovarian cysts doesn’t say anything about this much pain when one ruptures. Is this unusual? Has this happened to anyone else? Even today I can barely move because I feel like someone hit me in the stomach with a wrecking ball.

hi, I was wondering is it possible to detect the early signs of pregnancy with an ovarian cyst? Is it possible to get pregnant with an ovarian cyst?

no one’s answering my other question so here i’ll post it again:
i have a 6cm ovarian cyst on my right side
about 5 years ago i had my appendix out, which is also on the right side in case you didn’t know. anyways, it left a lot of scar tissue, and my ob.gyn. said that it would probably be last resort to have surgery because i have before.
the cyst keeps getting bigger, and it is hemorrhagic.but the pain is just so much i have to sit out on everyday things. i’m just a teenager so i don’t know if this is common.
what do you think i should do? should i go back to the hospital? or continue to wait it all out?
i was thinking if i got any pain later on, i would head into the ER maybe…
sorry i should have added that i went to the ER a week ago, and told me to come back if i couldnt stand the pain so they could admit me into the hospital…
* never had ovarian surgery before, just an appendectomy
