Are ovarian cysts dangerous and do they (or the surgical removal of them) interfere with fertility?

I just want to ask you guys that if (say) the doctors find that I do have one and it needs to be removed, then can it be removed alone and saving the ovary?
And say if the ovary needs to be removed then would it reduce my fertility by 50%? I always have ovulation pain on the right side so does that mean I rarely ovulate from my left side ovary?

whether or not cysts are dangerous depends on the kind of cyst. There are several different kinds. The good news is, most of them are not. An ultrasound will give you a better idea if its a complex or simple cyst. The simple ones being mostly harmless and go away on there own. I have had surgery 3 times to remove 4 different cysts and I just had an ultrasound yesterday that showed a 5.5cm chocolate/complex cyst. Most of the time if they have to be surgically removed there is little to no damage to the ovary. If God forbid it where to be damaged or had to be removed, the good ovary is still perfectly capable of helping make a baby. I forgot to mention that beside the ones I’ve had surgically removed, I’ve had approximately 22 either rupture or go away on there own.
Only your doctor can advise you, once they know the size and location of the cyst. All are possible, or none – only they know your specific chances.
It’s possible to save the ovary if you have the cyst removed early enough. But you must have it removed because if it bursts, you could get peritonitis, which can be lethal. Not sure about the fertility issues though.
I;ve had them removed, and nobody said a word to me about reduced fertility. If the cysts take over the ovary, it woun’t work properly, anyway…
When I got pregnant with my first child, the scans revealed a very large cyst on my right ovary (10cm). I had to have a c section to remove it (and my ovary) when my son was delivered. Thankfully it was benign. This didn’t stop me getting pregnant 10 months later with my daughter!
You may be experiencing pain because of the cyst. If you have an op, they will try and save your ovary, but if they can’t, your left one will compensate. Best of luck.
yes, dear, unfortunately it interferes with fertility and no, cyst can’t be removed without ovary. they remove it together.well, if cyst is not too big they might just remove a part of ovary. but the good thing is – if u meant to have a baby u will have it. of course u would need to have some hormonal treatment before and during pregnancy. my friend had one ovary removed completely and she has only a part of another ovary. after she went through hormonal treatment she could get a baby. now her boy is 13 years old. but unfortunately she never was able to have another child any more
ps. and it is dangerous cos cyst is usually growing and it might burst, then u will have inflammation of the whole body. that’s why they prefer to remove it. also at the place where there was one cyst there usually lots of very small around, so if u remove just this large cyst another, small one, will start growing. that’s why they remove the whole ovary, or if a cyst is really small a part of it
Hi, Ovarian cysts can and do rupture and they are painful as a rule whether they rupture or not. Whether or not you have it removed, it can affect your fertility. Sometimes the shock of the removal can truly affect your hormones for a while. If fertility is a huge concern I would have a long talk with the doctor prior to going ahead. I used to have cysts that formed and ruptured on an almost monthly basis. Do be aware though that there is a disease called POS that has to do with forming cysts….I think that is correct anyway polycystic ovarian syndrome. I think that it can run hand in hand with other health issues so it is something that you should be aware of. I am sorry that you are having pain. It is no fun at all.
Just fill free to talk to your Dr about all this concerns you have know one knows best than him .Get an ultrasound a see from there what can’t be done.I remember when i was younger (18) they did one and found that one of my ovaries was bigger than normal and both were fill with this tinny cysts and i became pregnant in 2001 had my baby now I’m 34 and i haven’t had any surgeries (Thanks to God) So if its nothing series don’t worry
