Can an ovarian cyst cause a positive on pregnancy test?
I took three at home pregnancy test and they were all positive. I went to the doctor to confirm and they gave me a urine test and it came out positive as well. However, when I went back for my blood test results that the gyno took it came out negative and somewhere the gyno mentioned I was low in HCG which could mean I just have a cyst and just not pregnant. I was upset after being told by the family doctor that i was and she reviewed and said everything looked fine, but agreed that the HCG was low. I’m completely confused and wondering is it possible to get a postive pregnancy and not be pregnant and have a cyst after all regardless of having my own home test and doctors test taken and all being positive, and my blood test being negative? Am i pregnant or not?

I have heard of this. My mom is an Ob/Gyn nurse (over 15 years) and she said that an ovarian cyst raises your HCG levels which can cause a false positive. It doesn’t happen often, but it can happen. I would still get a second opinion though, not only for your health, but to ease your mind. Good luck!
It is very rare to get a false negative, no matter what type of test that you take definitely when you have more then one positive. I have never ever heard of a cyst making a pt positive before, the only thing that i have heard that makes a test give a false positive is when your are on fertility drugs. You really need to have your ob/gyn do more testing or even an ultrasound because there may be more going that needs to be checked out. Go to your doctor and tell them to figure this out! No you cant get a positive result because of an ovarian cyst.Usually if your HCG level is low when you are pregnant is because you are going to have a misscarage.However sometimes if you just got pregnant then your HCG level might go up,but that is not the norm.Believe it or not lots ofd women actually get pregnant and dont ever know it because they dont take a test and then they start to bleed and think it a period when and fact they actually misscarried so early a long that they never knew.So what i think could be happening to you is that you took a pregnancy test early enough to detect that you were pregnant but your body is rejecting it early which is causing you to have a low hcg level.This happens a lot.If you are wanting to have a baby just try again it doest mean that you cant carry a baby to full term.
