Ovarian Cyst Removal Archives

Ovarian cyst to be removed?

I have to see dr tomorrow for surgery date for removal of ovary due to golf ball sized cyst, does anyone have any info or advice for me about this?
I had partial hysterectomy about 20yrs ago, only have ovaries. This is my second cyst this year and the first one was only pea sized (and was a solid cyst)but I have had alot of pain with this one and it has been there about 6 months that i can figure as that has been how long I have had the pain. HELP!! I am really nervous about this, can they do this without a large incision?
Update: The problem is more intense than expected. If there is anyone out there who has gone through this already please let me know how it affected them and what I may have to look forward to. I have full understanding that it affects everyone differently but I want to hear from someone who has gone through it personally.
Thanks
I will need a larger incision due to another unforseen problem with either another lesions or a hernia, so it will be more difficult than expected

Okay, well, I’m 17, and my girlfriend Melanie is 18 (yes, we’re lesbians, so if that’s a problem with you, no need to answer), and recently (Monday morning) she had surgery to get an ovarian cyst removed. She was diagnosed with cancer when she was 10, and this November, she will be cancer-free for five years. However, because of this, the doctor was more concerned about her cyst. She has a large cut in her abdomen where they removed it and it is all stitched up. She came home Thursday evening, and I’ve been staying with her family so I could help her out when her parents are at work, because she feels more comfortable with me helping her out than her brother. Well, Melanie is a very energetic, active person, so she’s becoming very antsy, but she’s also still in a lot of pain where they cut her open, so she’s spending a lot of time sleeping, and resting. However, Melanie also normally has a VERY high sex drive, and her surgery hasn’t changed that at ALL. It’s probably actually higher. She thinks that it would be fine for us to have sex if there’s no penetration, which obviously isn’t a problem for us, anyways, but it sort of worries me. Would it be okay for us to have sex this soon after her operation if there’s no penetration involved and she’s not pushing herself too hard, physically? It makes me nervous, but she’s climbing the walls, and her sex drive is through the roof, she wants it so bad. Would we be okay to have sex if there’s no penetration, or is it better to wait a little longer?

My girlfriend had an ovarian cyst removed. Would sex be safe if there’s no penetration?

I have only heard of two different ways that ovarian cysts are removed, they are:
-laparoscopy
-laparotomy

However a woman told me that she had a cyst removed a few years ago and the surgeons went into her vagina to her ovaries. I have never heard of this before and was wondering if anyone in the medical field has heard of this?
Melissa, I know they have to get to your ovaries. My question is what are the ways they do it? Do they go through incisions in your abdomen or through your vagina. Please do not answer if you don’t understand the question and are just being rude.

Hi people

This is not really a question but more of a comment and expressing my frustration at doctors nowadays.

I went for a usual check up to the gynae and he detected an ovarian cyst in me. Before I went for ’surgery’ I went for 3 other opinions to other gynaes (who confirmed the cyst) and then booked my op. To my amazement, the gynae told me that he charges 300%, adn so does the anaesthetist. I have medical aid / insurance and they said that they only cover 100% of the gynaes fee and the anaesthetist’s fee.

Anyway, I went ahead with the op (with was not life threatening) and now have this ugly scar on my abdomen and no sensation what so ever. On top of that, I had to pay an extra R12 000 (abt 00) in consultation and surgery costs which is the bit medical aid does not cover.

After my op, I experienced more ‘bleeding for several week’ and went to him, the gynae, for a check up. He was insulted that I never thanked him for performing the op AND said that I was fine
Anyway, I went back home thinking that I will be fine as the worst is over….However, it is the middle of the month…I am sitting with less than R100 in my account, starving, cold, and uncomfortable….allbecause I had to cough up extra money for the gynae and anaesthetist.

I wonder, how the hell can doctors say that they are saving lifes and making a difference if they ask people to pay up and ripp u off (all the gynaes I went to were charging their surgery fees at 300%), leaving you starving, and barely making ends meet at the end of the day?

I feel so sick thinking that I am paying for his mistress / overseas holiday while I am looking at my cupboard with no food in it…I might as well just died on that surgery table…

Ovarian cyst worries…. Help?

For a loooong time I have had really bad pain in my lower left pelvis. It comes and goes for a week or so at a time. I have other symptoms too, fatigue, weakness, pain during sex and feeling full all the time with loss of appetite. After almost a year of the doctor telling me nothing was wrong with me I finally got them to do an ultrasound today. They found a 3cm cyst on my ovary that has caused my ovary to swell to twice its normal size. The ultrasound tech showed me this but the results won’t be to my doctor for 3-5 days.

I am just wondering what to expect. I’ve done a lot of reading and it seems that anything over 2 cm that lasts more than 3 menstrual cycles and causes pain requires surgery. Anybody have any further knowledge or personal experience with this? I’m kinda terrified of surgery. And my grandmother died from ovarian cancer so I’m a little nervous, although I’m trying not to worry until I know more.

BC and Ovarian Cyst?

My ob had found another 3 cm ovarian cyst and now he put me on bc. Loestrin 24 Fe he put me on and I just feel worse than what I did. Does anyone know why he would put me on bc? I get another ultrasound next week to see what is going on, if it got bigger than i am looking at surgery again. I just had a 5cm cyst removed just 1yr ago. What does bc have to do with a Cyst?

I was in the hospital about 2 weeks ago with an ovarian cyst 3-4cm and they said it looked like there was blood around it.. they sent me home because it wasnt big enough for surgery. But i started my period 3days early and it ended 2days ago and today i started having waterly blood come out with pain all through my stomach and pain shooting down my leg. What could be wrong with me

What causes an ovarian cyst?
