I’m 15. I was having lower left abdominal pain, I was just recently being treated for a UTI and yeast infection this week, too. My doctor said he felt it and he said "it’s a pretty big, too". He told me not to do any vigorous activity, and wrote me a note for out of gym class for a month.
I’m getting an ultrasound Monday. He said sometimes ovarian cysts go away on their own, & sometimes they don’t & need surgery.
Do you think I’m gonna need surgery?

Anyone have personal experience in recovery time from a laparotomy? It is for removal of a large dermoid ovarian cyst. Doctor is predicting 6 weeks off work, but I’m hoping it won’t take that long! Laparoscopy isn’t an option unfortunately.

how were your cysts treated? Some background- I had my right ovary removed 2 years ago due to a large borderline malignancy tumor. I am 24. I had an ultrasound 6 months ago that showed a 4cm simple cyst.
Since then, I’d been having pelvic discomfort, heavier than normal periods and cramping, constipation, dizziness, short bouts of nausea, full feeling in my abdomen and just general discomort and occasional paid there.
At my follow up with my oncologist, she ordered another ultrasound which I had today, and it showed a 6cm cyst on the ovary. The tech said it looked like it had some blood in it, but didn’t comment much on it after that other than saying I needed to call my doc and get an appointment scheduled and if I feel sharp pain in that area to go to the ER because it could have twisted.
Anyone been in this situation? How was it treated? All this is with being on the pill, by the way. Did you just wait and see, did you have surgery?

I had a fairly large benign ovarian cyst removed 10 years ago. As a result, I have about a six inch scar right above my pubic bone from the surgery. If I touch it, I can feel that there is some firm scar tissue behind it. I imagine it looks similar to a C-section scar although I’ve never seen one in person.
Will this scar interfere with the growth of my baby in the uterus? Can it in any way endanger the pregnancy? I’ve had a lot of moderate cramping on and off, and I always worry the scar is somehow "in the way" of the baby’s growth. I am currently 6 weeks along and won’t have my first prenatal appt until 8 weeks. Thoughts?

I just want to ask you guys that if (say) the doctors find that I do have one and it needs to be removed, then can it be removed alone and saving the ovary?
And say if the ovary needs to be removed then would it reduce my fertility by 50%? I always have ovulation pain on the right side so does that mean I rarely ovulate from my left side ovary?

3 weeks ago I had two large cysts removed, one on each ovary. One ovary also had to be removed. This was done laproscopically. The bloat and pain are mostly gone. I can exercise albeit low impact. But I’m still feeling some discomfort and tenderness, certainly not enough for pain killers, but definitely there and wonder if this is normal. Last week the doctor indicated she was happy with the surgery and the incisions looked great. I forgot to ask her the question about continued discomfort.
