Hello,
My problem is probably quite unusual,in fact I have been treated in a particular way for my appendiceal attack of last month. In fact,I started to feel pain in my RLQ and clinical exam showed all the signs of appendicitis and the scan confirmaed that the appendix had enlarged, the surgeon gave me a antibiotic treatment and sceduled suregry for the following morning. When laparoscopy was done he found a ruptured ovarian cyst which he believed was the main cause of the pain that I felt and cured it,he saw the appendix and in spite of its slightly enlarged size he decided not to remove it as its global aspect didn’t look so bad. After surgery he gave me further antibiotic treatment for a couple of days and pain went away.I just think that it would have been easier for me if he had removed it as I know that an appendix that has had issues once can become inflammed in the future.Do you think that I if I get another pain attack I will be able to have this bloody thing out for good by insisting a little bit and directly asking the medical staff to help me get rid of it.I precise that I live in Franceand that it is the second abdominal surgey that I undergo for RLQ pain and that n one decided to remove my appendix.
All testimonies and opinions are welcome.

25 year old female with a history of ovarian cysts recently went to the ER because of abdominal pain. She is 5′5" and 125 pounds in overall good health. Diagnosed as an ovarian cyst that was drained int he ER. Post drainage, a second ultra-sound was done and she was told that it looked as if there were hairs on her ovaries. She followed up with her PCP who ran numerous tests. All tests came back normal with the exception of one that indicated an increased level of testosterone. The results were sent to an Endocrinologist and she will follow up with him soon. I am wondering if this means she has ovarian cancer, or pre cancer or other life threatening problem? What questions should she ask when she has the followup? What treatments are available for this type of thing?
Please respond only if you have real knowledge on the subject. This is way too serious to play.
Thank you

I have suffered with ovarian cysts since i was 10. My mum had cysts and fertility problems and took her sixteen years to concieve me :]
Me and hubby concieved my daughter within 4 months but this time round over a year, I don’t know if i am ovulating but have very irregular periods mixture of very long pr very short, overweight (have been since i was little), facial hair and i think ive got high blood pressure as i sometimes see dots of lights. My father is a diabetic so there is history in my genes.
I had a M/C (chemical pregnancy) and found out yesterday that it seems it didnt implant properly, could this be due to hormone levels?
I have 2 ovarian cysts on each ovary and ione is 5cm. I had a blood test yesterday and hope they can help me based on that or they will do another one this tuesday. But i’d like some advice on this while TTC as i think mine has got worse after my daughter as i put on more weight and i want to get tjis sorted now while im 22 before it gest too late.

In 2008 I had surgery to remove what was thought to be a sebaceous cyst on my head which turned out to be a follicular center cell non-hodgekins lymphoma. I had 20 doses of radiation to my head and four IV Rituxan treatments. All completed in Dec 2008. My PET scans since then have been clear. I also take IV Remicade every 8 wks for Crohn’s Disease.
I am 41 yrs old and am aggravated by consistently being "hot", red-faced, sweaty, itchy all over (very fair skinned red head), and now in last 6 mos or so having longer, heavier and more painful periods. Periods are regular, have not skipped any, but having more pain and cramps with them. Also having pain (sharp) with bowel movements during cycle times.
I am used to abd pain with Crohn’s, so I don’t really get excited about it. I just had a pelvic ultrasound which showed "normal" results but commented that I have multiple follicular ovarian cysts bilaterally. I did have pain on the left lower side during the test, and not on the right.
I realize that "follicular" ovarian cysts are functional cysts, but I am concerned regarding my increased menstrual symptoms, cramps, and left side pelvic pain. Also that my last "cyst" was not a cyst but a tumor!
What should I think about this – I am worried…..
Thanks!

I went to the gynecologist today, and was surprised to leave with order for blood tests for some genetic depression problem and the mysterious MTHFR. I’ve looked up stuff, but the information is all very scattered, and all the places I’ve looked seem to have different diseases that can be caused by it.
All I know is that he came to this conclusion when I told him that depression and bi-polar disorder runs in the family, and that I’ve had a huge ovarian cyst. He also knows that my mom had to do fertility treatments to have my sister, and that she’s getting her uterus out in a few days.
I’m wondering what about that stuff was so conclusive to him, especially since not a single general practice or psychiatrist has EVER mentioned it to me.
Anyone know a lot about this MTHFR gene??
I’ve found results from threads on forums, and those who had something to do with the gene had some very similar symptoms that my mom had… for instance, miscarriages, heavy bleeding NOT resulting in a miscarriage, blood clot problems, and immune diseases…. But none of it makes much sense to either of us, and she’s been through med school.

A couple of years ago I had a right-side oopherectomy for ovarian cysts that had torted. Following this, I had severe pelvic pain which they diagnoised as endo folllowing a laproscopy (also had adhesions) and treated by use of a progesteron inplant which, until last week, seemed to be working as had very little pain and was able to continue my life as normal.
Last week I was admitted to hospital with right lower abdo pain – initial though was appendicitis but upon surgical intervention, discovered 5 sites of severe endo which have removed. My question is this – I am aware that after progesteron treatment, my next option is GnRH hormone therapy BUT I have epilepsy and know I can’t take this as reduces seizure threshold. I have asked for a complete hysto before but my age (25) and fact I don’t have children means I am not a good candidate. Does anyone else know of any treatment that epileptics can take for endo? Or is hysto only option? Many thanks!

I have ovarian cysts (I’m sorry to those of you who see my questions almost every night, I guess I’m obsessed with my medical problem…) and know they have been there for a long time. All the info I can find is on functional cysts, and was wondering if there is any way to tell what kind I have, without surgery to see? As far as I have researched, functional cysts go away on their own or with help of hormones. Obviously that has not worked, at least in the past 2 years. Anyone know of any medical website on what kind of treatment I may have to use, since birth control does not work at all for me?

I am on Loestrin24 to regulate my period, ovarian cysts, and acne treatment. I am almost through my first pack (will be Saturday). I was put on Antibiotics last Friday because I have Strep Throat. Ever since I went on antibiotics, my face has been breaking out like crazy. Could this be because the antibiotics have counter-acted the birth control pills? How long after I am off the antibiotics will my birth control become effective again?

Does a pelvic ultrasound that showed polycystic ovaries, mean that I have polycystic ovarian SYNDROME??? In 2005 I had a pelvic ultrasound due to some abdominal pain I was having. The pelvic ultrasound revealed that I had many small cysts on my ovaries. My physician put me on a high dose form of birth control to help prevent me from having a heavy or a menstrual cycle at all, which they said would "basically" treat the polycystic ovaries. They also told me that I may have fertility problems in the future, and that I would likely need to see a physician/OBGYN when ready to become pregnant. Needless to say, I easily a year later conceived and carried full term, having a 9lb2oz baby girl. A few years later due to a cardiovascular disease, I was put on a blood thinner to prevent clotting. Because of the blood thinner, I could no longer take my birth control or anything containing estrogen. My Cardiologist and Gynecologist have both agreed that within a few weeks I can get an IUD to prevent pregnancy, But, because I had my pelvic ultrasound done in 2005, and was with a different physician at the time, they no longer have my test results, which meant to my gynecologist that I either have Polycystic Ovarian SYNDROME, or that I have __________that can cause many cysts to be on the ovaries, and also causes the same symptoms as pcos but isn’t pcos. I do not remember what this other disease/syndrome/complication is called but I’m pretty sure it started with the word congenital.
ANOTHER THING I WONDER…… Is if when I start Merena (the IUD) for birth control, it is known for making periods less heavy. Therefore I am curious if this could be a possible help with PCOS if that is in fact what I have. My gynecologist said the treatment for PCOS and the other condition is the same.
