Yes, an ovarian cyst can cause you to gain weight…and, yes, it can mess with your metabolism. You should go back and see your doctor, and talk to him/her about having some blood tests to see if you PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). PCOS causes cysts, as well as metabolic issues…and can cause many other issues that you think are unrelated (such as headaches, irregular cycles, fertility issues, insulin resistence, and the list goes on). Cysts on your ovaries are nothing to joke about…you shouldn’t put this off.
If a cyst becomes larger than your ovary it runs the risk, not only of bursting and causing a vast amount of issues resulting from that, but can also cause your ovary to twist…which will in turn reduce the blood supply to it, and can cause you to lose that ovary. This is not something that happens often, but it is a possibility. Cysts can sometimes be cancerous as well. Many times they can be "dermoids" which have cell matter inside them that creats hair, teeth, nails etc. (a little gross sounding, but oh so true…I had one and had to have my ovary removed…while I was pregnant because the pregnancy hormones made it begin growing really fast – mine had hair inside). So, the moral of the story is…don’t wait, get it checked out. If for nothing else but to ease your mind and make sure you are healthy!
Absolutely! I had an 8 1/2 lb ovarian cyst when I was 30 and from then on I have developed thyroid disease and weight gain. Finally has a hysterectomy and feel much better now.
I’ve had numerous ovarian cysts, on both ovaries, the size of grapefruits. They did not affect my weight or my metabolism. I would suggest going on Femcom-36 low dose birth control to help you with your cysts, and it will control your symptoms. Helped me a ton!
HI! Unfortunately, yes,at least, that happened to me.I had large one on my left ovary, about the size of a tennis ball. I thought I was bloating,a nd,had a sense of continuous heaviness in my lower stomach. Fortunately,it drained spontaniously through my periodYou should check it out, abosolutely, with your M D. Everybody thought i gained weight, and so did I. My weight went down, almost immediately it drained.Oh,and I was HUNGRY all the time, but maybe that was just my nerves?
