Ovarian cyst?
I have an extremely painful ovarian cyst and very worried. I have been granted charity care at a local hospital due to umemployment and no insurance. After my ultrasound, the attending Dr. called and explained they can not do anything for me but will give my a referral to another hospital. Does anyone know why they will not order a ca-125 or surgery?
This cyst is solid and large.
Thank you so much for your responses.

First off ovarian cysts are VERY common….but usually they are small. A CA-125 test is to help detect ovarian cancer…ultrasounds can usually give the doc an idea of what type of cyst it is. In my opinion everyone who has an ovarian cyst should get this test. Since ovarian cysts are so common and usually will go away on their own surgery is the last option. If your uncomfortable with your diagnosis see another doc.
I have had ovarian cysts and with the ultra sound they can tell that its fluid filled and the size. They would not order a ca 125 because its fluid and cancer would be a solid mass. They wont do surgery unless its really really huge. Usually ovarian cysts burst on their own and its a bit painful..when mine broke it hurt, but it certainly was not aweful..cramped and went to bed and the next day was fine..good luck
If its solid and large..I would get another opinion!!!! Fast!
I had an ovarian cyst and it was very painful. It was not removed it I was put on the pill and it desolved on its own.
Go to the other hospital you should get a second oppion and dont push surgery if it is not needed.
Surgery is not a simple process as many think.
Try not to worry (easier said than done I know) the stress will not help you (not meaning the cyst meaning you)
Ovarian cyst are common you do have to have it checked out but many women have them and they are nothing
Try deep breathing when you find your getting stressed to help you relax
For the most part you have to have a 7mm cyst before they will do surgery. I had cysts form and pop twice a month for a year and never had them removed. The only thing you can do is wait till it pops and hope that you have pain meds cause it will hurt despite what most people think. When it pops it will cause blood outside of a space that doesnt have any and thus will hurt (not alot of blood). And just because you have a cyst doesnt mean that you have cancer. Ordering a ca-125 is a serious step. My Mom passes from Ovarain Cancer and I never had a ca-125 done. It will be hard for you to get insurance if you have a positive ca-125 in your records. Hope this helps you out!
