Ovarian Cyst removal when pregnant? help!!?
Hi I went for my dating scan on Monday and they found a 10cm cyst on my ovary. I went straight in to see the doctor afterwards. He took blood and said it would be removed when the results came back. He said he wanted to do the Op by the time I reached 14 weeks and it will involve an open incision, not keyhole surgery. I have read a lot about cysts online and have seen that they are not usually removed without close monitoring to see if they are growing or have become twisted. It seems there will be more risk to do an op and remove it at such an early stage when it is likely to rupture on it’s own. I am going to see another doctor today to tell them my concerns about an op if it’s not necessary. Can anyone help with there own experiences of this, I would be so grateful. Thanks

I’m currently experiencing the same thing. My ob referred me to an ob/gyn oncologist and I’m scheduled to have my entire ovary removed on February 2nd. At my last ultrasound my cyst was also 10 cm and had doubled in size since the previous ultrasound 3.5 weeks before. Because mine is continuing to grow and because of the size of it already, I was told it’s safer to remove it because the risk of it becoming twisted as my uterous grows is pretty high. If it is to twist, not only would it cause me severe pain, but it would cause my ovary to die and increase chances of preterm labor drastically. Right now, I’m 11 weeks, but will be 14 when I have it removed. My surgery is being done robotically though since I’ll only have 4 small incisions. Either way though, the surgery scares me, but I was assured that the chances of something happening to the baby are very small , 1-2 %.
