ovarian cyst + tailbone pain?
i have been suffering from terrible tailbone pain for about 2 months. I went to 2 doctors and they said I most likely had a cyst on my tailbone but it was too far under the skin to lance so each gave me different antibiotics and pain meds and that was it. After about a month, i went to a 3rd doctor who said the same thing, but referred me to a surgeon to have it removed since i was in so much pain. surgeon said no cyst, sent me for an mri of pelvis. mri shows nothing wrong at all with my tailbone but ovarian cysts and possible PID, lots of free fluid. THEY callled my ob gyn (same one for 7 yrs) and he scheduled me an appt a month & 1/2 from now. 2 weeks ago i couldnt take it went to er, they did an ultrasound confirming the cysts etc, gave me pain meds, antibiotics thats it. cant bear the pain anymore but cant get in to my doc any sooner. has anyone else had tailbone pain with ovarian cysts or do you think it could be something else? what other action can i take? i am miserable ![]()

Hello! I have suffered from both a cyst on my tailbone AND an ovarian cyst & I can tell you that they are both VERY different.
A cyst on your tailbone is a pilonidal cyst (not sure of the spelling). Your tailbone is SUPER tender & sore. The pain increases gradually and eventually it ruptures ( think of a really swollen pimple). The stuff that comes out is dried blood & then fresh blood (sorry to be gross but I FREAKED when it happen – wanted to give you the heads up). once it burst, the pain was much less. What got me to the Dr. was that the opening never healed up. They didnt do any special tests or anything to determine. They just saw where it was & had to have surgery to remove it. From what I understand, the only way to get rid of the cyst is to have it surgically removed.
The Ovarian Cyst was totally different. I had cramping & stomach cramps. There was no pain in my back or rear area. Cysts are suppsed to go away after a couple periods & even faster when you are on the pill. Did they give you that information? At least from the research I did & what my Dr said, that was what helped my ovarian cyst to go away ( going on the pill).
I hope that information helped. Hopefully, you will get some relief soon.
BTW, the drs say that the cyst on my tailbone was only the size of a small fingernail. Would something that small show up on a MRI? I am not a dr or anything. Is it possible that it is too small to show up?
i’ve had terrible ovarian cysts, and have been diagnosed with poly-cystic ovarian syndorme. i have never had tailbone pain, only groin/abdomen pain. you may want to check out this website and see if someone there can help you or try calling your doctor every day to see if there is a cancellation and nicely ask the receptinist person if they can fit u in because of your pain.
