Ruptured Ovarian Cyst or Endometriosis Pain?
Our daughter, almost 24, has had some bleeding on and off for over a month. She takes Seasonique (3 month birth control) to control the symptoms of her endometriosis (diagnosed by laproscopy 4 years ago). She has taken it for almost 3 years and has been very pleased with the reduction in the amount of pain from the endometriosis.
Suddenly in January, pain on her left side increased greatly and the on and off bleeding began. She had an appointment with her OB/GYN who said it may have been due to the endometriosis. She managed to deal with the pain up until last week when, during the night, she has some take-your-breath-away pain on her left side which went on for a couple hours. 2 days later, she felt a "pop" on her left side and had a gush of heavy bleeding for 2 hours. The pain increased throughout the day until she eventually went to the emergency room as it was after hours at her OB/GYN and they couldn’t do anything to immediately see her. They weren’t able to do to an ultrasound at the ER (small town hospital) but scheduled one for 2 days later. The dr. who did an internal exam said the left side felt "full".
On Tuesday she had the ultrasound and everything in her ovaries and uterus looked normal. She saw her OB/GYN again today and she says it could have been a cyst that ruptured, or it could be a flare-up of endometriosis. The pain is sometimes sharp, and the rest of the time she says it feels like there is a curling iron burning inside, on the left side. Her dr. would like to give her a Lupron shot, if it is endometriosis, to throw her into menopause. This seems like an unwise thing to do if it was a ruptured cyst since Lupron won’t help with that and it’s not even clear if it really helps reduced endometriosis pain.
If you have had an ovarian cyst rupture, what were the symptoms before, during and after? How bad was the pain and how long did the pain last afterwards? If you have endometriosis, have you tried Lupron? Did it help?

I have suffered from many bilateral ovarian cysts over the past 11 years and have surgery 2 times to have them removed (it wasn’t anything too serious) and was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2007.
The symptoms I have experienced whenever I have ovarian cysts is pelvic pain, which is sometimes a constant dull aching, sometimes a sharp, stabbing type of pain. Whenever I have an ovarian cyst, I also experience pain with intercourse and pain during urination. I have severe period cramps and in the past when I have had an ovarian cyst gotten my period every 2 weeks and more recently I have had 2 late periods and heavy bleeding.
Over the past 11 years of having ovarian cysts, I have also experienced a number of ruptured ovarian cysts and when I’ve had an ovarian cyst rupture, I had an onset of sharp, piercing pain, particularly in my lower pelvis. It almost felt as if though something inside me exploded causing a sharp stabbing pain, like a stab with a knife.
I was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2007 and also tried to take birth control pills continuously (skipping the placebo pills) so as to not have a period, but I eventually experienced breakthrough bleeding for 5 & 1/2 weeks and was changed to 2 different pills and found I was having frequent migraines and stopped the pill.
I’m not currently using any form of birth control pills to treat my endo, but have been reading up on some information on how to change your diet to try to help relieve the symptoms of endometriosis and have been since my diagnosis of endo tried some of the foods mentioned and cut out and in a way I think it has helped somewhat.

I hope that your daughter will be able to find a treatment best suited for her own unique situation and that she can find some pain relief.
Good luck
Well I am 25 as of Dec 09, and Dec 28 I was rushed to the ER due to severe pain. I was laying down watching movie and in 1 second I was on the floor crawling, standing, fetal position, anything to find comfort..nothing! I went to the ER could barely wait to be triaged and when I finally got in the room a rush of sweat came on and I vomited about 4 times.I was weak, dizzy, sweaty, clammy, pale. At this point they gave me an IV of dilauted and fenergan to help with nausea, and did some bloodwork. I thought at this point with my "swollen rectum" it was food poisioning. They later made me drink contrast and did a CT Scan where they found ‘fluid’ in my lower pelvis whish said could be from a ruptured cyst or my appendix. They ruled out the apendix and said "we THINK it was a ruptured cyst." I had another internal and external ultrasound done where they said I have multiple cysts on my ovaries, the sacond ultrasound looks as if it changed dramatically from the first one which my doctor said "she has never seen before". And now we are just waiting. Waiting for my insurance to kick back on, waiting for another ultrasound, all while I have a distended abdomen, pressure, and some dull ache-y-ness. Hope this helps. I still dont have answers myself, as to why I have these cysts how long I could have possibly had them, why did it rupture, can it rupture again, what kind of cysts are they and most importantly is it cancerous?
