I’ve got a cyst on my right ovary measuring 7cmx10cmx10.5cm can this interfere with the development of the unborn baby, what is the best treatment for it and could it make me infertile?

kara_p_uk … I have just had my first baby and like you had an ovarian cyst of similar size. It is likely you suffer from Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
You will likely have had it scanned as you seem to know the size. Your GP should arrange for you to see a consultant to discuss it.
If it is a standard fluid filled cyst, it is unlikely to cause you, or the baby any problems and it will be left alone if it is causing you no pain (see below)
Remember a baby is a pretty heavy and sizeable thing compared to a ball of fluid, it will just squish it out the way if it needs to as it grows.
The most likely outcome is that, as long as it is positioned out of the way of the uterus, you will be able to have a normal vaginal birth.
What is likely though, is that if you were to have a C-Section for whatever reason, your consultant will ask that during the procedure the cyst is removed at the same time.
If you have a vaginal birth, your consultant will likely want to see you at the 6 weeks check-up and have it re-scaned to see if it has gone down when your hormones subside. If it remains that size, it is likely that he/she will recommend that it be removed surgically.
That is where I am now. I am advised surgery is fairly routine and if done by keyhole it has a relatively quick recovery time.
Barring complications, a cyst removal is unlikely to affect your fertility. However, PCOS overall can so pls consult with your GP.
If you suffer excruciating pain, my consultant described it to my husband like as if someone grabbed his balls and twisted them constantly, then seek medical attention immediately as you could have twisted it.
ok so ure pregnant…. the cist may be on your ovary but it doesnt mean that you are going to become infertile. obviously you’ve been to the doctors about this because you know wat it is well the next stage is to get it sorted out you need to go and see your doctor and ask him wat he thinks the best way is he will probably suggest one of two options either to have it removed which may cause complications because you are pregnant or he may put you on a course on anti biotics and treat it that way but it does need to be sorted out sogo and speak to your docor at your surgery or if you dont feel comfortable talking to him try the nurse at the surgery or health care person.
I’ve got PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). It causes cysts on the ovaries, infertility, weight gain, and even diabetes. you should definately get looked at by your doctor. demand from him a blood test.
I am 18 weeks pregnant and also have a cyst on my right ovary. Both the sonographer and my midwife have told me that it is very common in early pregnancy and that there is not much cause for alarm. Generally speaking, most cysts disappear as you get further into the pregnancy, however if you experience pains on the right side or any bloating other than your bump you should probably ask for advice. If you are still concerned, see your GP or midwife and they will be happy to talk it over with you.
